Philosophy

Welcome to the Children’s University in Mexico, designed to embrace all of the learning opportunities made available to children that take place outside the statutory school curriculum. The purpose of the Children’s University in Mexico is to provide a range of learning experiences that can bring all children into contact with their wider community and engage their interest in learning beyond the school day.

The Children’s University in Mexico is modeled upon, and affiliated to the Wrexham Children’s University, a partnership between the Department of Education and the North East Wales Institute for Higher Education (University of Wales).

The philosophy and operating procedures for the Children’s University in Mexico recognizes the central role that schools have in the development of young peoples’ learning. Close links have been forged between education providers to provide a range of learning experiences that will encourage young people to remain active learners, aware of the opportunities available to them now and in the future. Promoting learning engagement in this manner will ensure that the term ‘Lifelong Learning’ becomes a reality for young people in Mexico.

The Children’s University adopts a philosophy that encourages young people to gain benefit from their participation. Fundamentally, the purpose of the Children’s University is to promote activities that develop ‘the whole child’ and to award credits for participation in learning rather than the traditional educational models of rewarding achievement against predetermined standards. The belief is that the Children’s University will encourage and create an excitement about learning.

Encapsulated in the philosophy are the beliefs that:

  • All pupils want to learn;
  • All parents want their children to succeed;
  • Learning is a lifelong process;
  • There are many ways of learning;
  • Learning carries on outside school hours
